Buchanan County Receives FEMA funding for emergency food and shelter programs

Date:

Buchanan County, Missouri – Buchanan County recently secured funding through the Department of Homeland Security’s Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) for the Emergency Food and Shelter’s National Board Program. A media release from Northwest Missouri United Labor Community Services Agency (AFL-CIO) indicated that the county will receive $25,307 to bolster local emergency food and shelter programs.

The United Way of Greater St. Joseph has been tasked with managing applications from local organizations aiming to secure a portion of the funds. United Way’s president, Kylee Strough, discussed the eligibility criteria for these groups in an interview with KQ2 on May 8.

“They need to be doing programs that align with the pockets of funding, something around utilities assistance, rent and mortgage assistance, shelter, food, etc.,” President Strough said.

President Strough continued, “They also need to have a governing board that serves without compensation. They need to be a 501C3, and if they have an audit, they need to submit a copy of that as well.”
