CVS unexpectedly closes location in Kansas City

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – Pharmacy giant CVS will shutter its store at 2435 Independence Ave. in Kansas City’s Northeast district next month. According to company spokesperson Amy Thibault, the last day of operations will be June 13. She emphasized that staff members will be offered equivalent positions within the company, and prescription services will be transitioned to the CVS Pharmacy located downtown at 921 Main St.

“Maintaining access to pharmacy services in the communities we serve is an important factor we consider when making store closure decisions,” Thibault said. “Other factors include local market dynamics, population shifts, a community’s store density, and ensuring there are other geographic access points to meet the needs of the community.”

According to the Northeast News , which first reported the closing, a manager at the Northeast store said it was shutting down due to “theft and rent.”

Back in November 2021, CVS announced it would be closing around 900 stores. Thibault shared that 300 stores were closed in 2022, another 300 in 2023, and that the final 300 will close this year as planned. Despite these numbers, she assured that there are almost 100 CVS branches across the Kansas City metro area and no further local closures are scheduled for this year.
