Missouri assistant attorney general earns major honor for leadership integrity and legal service

Date:

Missouri – In public service, much of the most important work happens far from the spotlight. Briefs are prepared, claims are defended, and legal questions with real consequences for state government and working Missourians are handled with little fanfare.

That is part of what makes the latest recognition for Assistant Attorney General Nandi Person stand out. Her work has now drawn statewide attention, with Missouri Lawyers Media naming her a Women’s Justice Award recipient in the Public Service category.

The honor, awarded to women in the legal profession who demonstrate outstanding leadership and influence, recognizes Person’s contributions during her time with the Missouri Attorney General’s Office, where she has spent the past two years serving in the Labor Division.

Her role places her at the center of legal matters that are both technical and consequential, including litigation and counsel related to workers’ compensation claims involving the State Treasurer, the Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, and the Second Injury Fund. The division also handles defense work tied to claims filed by employees against state agencies, in coordination with the Office of Administration’s Central Accident Reporting Office.

Attorney General Catherine Hanaway said the recognition reflects the standard Person has set through her service to the state.

“Nandi exemplifies the very best of public service,” said Attorney General Catherine Hanaway.

“Her dedication to professionalism, integrity, and service to the people of Missouri reflects the core values of our office. We are proud to see her contributions recognized with this honor.”

Inside the office, colleagues describe that reputation as something earned steadily, not suddenly. Labor Division Chief Counsel Rachael Wareheim pointed to Person’s consistency as much as her legal ability.

“Day in and day out, Nandi brings meticulous preparation, skill, and expertise for the Missourians we serve,” said Labor Division Chief Counsel Rachael Wareheim.

“Her work ethic and leadership elevate our entire team, and we could not be more proud of Nandi in this well‑deserved recognition of the impact she has made in public service.”

The award also arrives as a broader affirmation of the kind of legal work that rarely commands headlines but remains essential to the functioning of government. The Attorney General’s Office said it is proud to count Person among its attorneys and thanked her for her dedication to Missouri.

As the office marks her achievement, it is also using the moment to underscore a larger mission: building a culture of legal excellence rooted in good governance and service.
