Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City residents cleaning up after recent storms will have more options to get rid of downed limbs and other storm debris, after the city expanded its temporary cleanup plan to include curbside pickup appointments across the city.
The expanded service is meant to give residents a no-cost way to clear storm-related debris from their properties without having to haul everything to a drop-off site. But the city is making one thing clear: curbside pickup will not happen automatically. Residents must request an appointment first.
Appointments open Wednesday, June 17, and will close Friday, June 26, at 7 p.m. Residents can request a collection through the myKCMO Mobile or Web Apps or by contacting 311 Monday through Friday between 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. In the myKCMO app, residents should make a report and choose “Brush Special Collection Request” as the category.
Any household that does not schedule an appointment will not be included in the pickup route.
The curbside collections are set to begin Monday, June 29, and will continue until all reservations have been completed. All storm debris must be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. that day. The city is also asking residents to prepare debris properly before pickup: branches and limbs must be cut into four-foot lengths, and limbs must be tied in bundles using twine or jute rope. Wire and plastic tape should not be used.

The city said the service is only for storm debris. Leaf piles, grass clippings and other yard waste will not be collected as part of this special cleanup effort.
For residents who want to remove debris sooner, Kansas City is also continuing free access to several Missouri Organics drop-off locations. From Monday, June 15, through Saturday, June 20, residents may drop off storm debris at three sites: 10301 Raytown Road, 7700 E. U.S. Highway 40, and 11660 N. Main Street.
The drop-off sites will be closed Sunday, June 21.
After that, free storm debris disposal will continue from Monday, June 22, through Saturday, June 27, at two Missouri Organics locations: 10301 Raytown Road and 11660 N. Main Street. All Missouri Organics sites included in the temporary cleanup plan are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The expanded plan gives residents two paths: schedule curbside pickup and have debris ready by June 29, or use the free drop-off sites during the designated dates. City officials say the goal is to make storm cleanup easier, faster and less costly for neighborhoods still dealing with the mess left behind.
