Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City residents looking to clear out old tires, unwanted electronics, yard debris or household trash will have two locations available through a 6th District waste drop-off event. Although organized by the 6th District, the event is open to residents from across Kansas City.
The goal is simple: give people one place to get rid of several types of waste that can be difficult to handle through regular disposal. Drop-off locations will be available at 7850 Holmes and 100 Red Bridge Road.
Residents can bring general trash, leaves and brush, tires and electronic items for recycling. Some electronics, however, come with disposal fees depending on the type of equipment.
Dehumidifiers, air conditioners, refrigerators and freezers will each cost $10 to recycle. CRT monitors carry a $5 fee. Flat-screen televisions, including LED, LCD and plasma models of any size, will cost $20 each.
Older televisions are more expensive to process. CRT TVs will carry fees ranging from $30 to $50 each, while console and projection televisions will cost $50 each.
Not every electronic or household item will be accepted as part of the electronics collection. The event will not take smoke detectors, light bulbs, fluorescent tubes, tapes, CDs, DVDs, alkaline batteries, PCB ballasts, software, toner cartridges, thermometers, thermostats or hazardous materials.
Residents planning to bring electronics may want to check the accepted-item requirements before loading their vehicles, particularly if they have older equipment or several devices to dispose of. More information about electronics recycling is available through MRC Recycling.
The city also provides additional information about trash services and future disposal opportunities at kcmo.gov/trash.
The 6th District event gives Kansas City households an opportunity to deal with several cleanup projects in one trip, from clearing fallen leaves and brush to finally removing an unused television, appliance or stack of tires.
