CVS on South Campbell Avenue in Springfield closes permanently

Date:

Springfield, Missouri – The CVS store located on South Campbell Avenue at Battlefield Road, a longtime staple in the community, has closed its doors for good. Drivers passing by can now see the windows covered and the signage removed, signaling the end of an era for the popular pharmacy.

The closure was confirmed by a call to the store, where an employee verified that this is the only CVS location in Springfield affected by the recent wave of shutdowns. The closure is part of a broader strategy announced by CVS in 2022, which involves shutting down hundreds of stores across the nation through 2024. The decision, according to the company, is driven by changing population dynamics and evolving customer purchasing habits.

Despite the closure, Springfield residents still have several CVS locations available to them. The remaining stores include those on East Elm Street near National Avenue, West Republic Road at Golden Avenue, East Republic Road at National Avenue, and East Battlefield Road at Lone Pine Avenue. Additionally, CVS operates the pharmacy inside the Target store on South Primrose Street and South Glenstone Avenue.

The closure of the South Campbell Avenue location reflects a significant shift in CVS’s operational strategy.

As CVS continues its nationwide consolidation, the impact on local communities remains to be fully seen. For now, Springfield residents will adapt to this change, relying on the other CVS locations for their pharmacy needs
