Full Tilt Film Festival, scheduled for August, set to bring athletes filmmakers and studios to Kansas City

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – A new cinematic event centered on the world of sports storytelling is preparing to make its debut in Kansas City.

The Kansas City Film Office has unveiled plans for the Full Tilt Film Festival, an upcoming gathering designed to spotlight the growing relationship between athletics and the film industry. Scheduled for August 28–29, 2026, the festival will blend the excitement of a traditional film showcase with the depth of an industry-focused summit.

Organizers describe the event as a place where creativity and competition intersect. Athletes, filmmakers, studio executives, and representatives from sports franchises are expected to come together for conversations and programming that examine how sports stories move from the field to the screen.

Through curated screenings, live discussions, and special events, the festival aims to provide a platform for both professionals working in the industry and fans who simply love powerful sports narratives.

Sports storytelling has expanded rapidly in recent years, stretching far beyond traditional game coverage. Documentaries, scripted films, and media ventures launched by athletes themselves have transformed the landscape. The Full Tilt Film Festival intends to explore every corner of that evolving space, highlighting projects that capture the drama, personalities, and cultural significance of sports.

Kansas City leaders view the event as an opportunity to elevate the city’s growing reputation in film and media production.

Mayor Quinton Lucas emphasized that bringing filmmakers and sports figures to the city offers more than just entertainment.

“Full Tilt Film Festival represents a powerful opportunity to showcase Kansas City’s creative ecosystem to national and international industry leaders,” said Mayor Quinton Lucas.

“By bringing filmmakers, studios, and athletes into the city for meaningful engagement, this event positions Kansas City not just as a host, but as a collaborator.”

For the Kansas City Film Office, the festival also reflects the city’s unique identity. Director Rachel Kephart noted that Kansas City’s longstanding passion for sports naturally pairs with its expanding creative scene. She described the festival as an effort to recognize how influential sports storytelling has become in modern film and media, while positioning Kansas City as a central hub for that conversation.

Organizers say additional details about programming, featured guests, and ticket availability will be announced in the months ahead as preparations continue. For now, the announcement marks the beginning of what leaders hope will become a defining annual event linking sports, storytelling, and the creative energy of Kansas City.
