Kansas City, Missouri – For small business owners, finding new customers is only part of the challenge. Understanding how to secure government contracts, complete certification requirements and connect with the right city departments can be just as important when planning for growth.
Kansas City is preparing to make those connections easier. Instead of leaving entrepreneurs to navigate complicated processes on their own, the city is bringing business resources, department representatives and contracting information together for a four-hour event at City Hall.

The City of Kansas City will host Small Business Day at the City on Tuesday, November 17, 2026, offering local entrepreneurs and contractors an opportunity to explore ways to work with municipal government and strengthen their businesses.
The event will take place inside the Kansas City City Hall Rotunda from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. It is designed for both established companies and individuals who are just beginning their entrepreneurial journey.

One of the main attractions will be direct access to representatives from multiple city departments. Attendees will be able to speak with officials, ask questions about available services and receive assistance based on their business needs.
For contractors and companies interested in providing goods or services to the city, the gathering will also offer information about municipal purchasing procedures.
Participants can learn how Kansas City handles contracts, requests for proposals, commonly known as RFPs, and other procurement opportunities. The goal is to help business owners better understand the steps involved in pursuing work with local government.
Certification guidance will be another important part of the program.
Business owners will have opportunities to learn about certification processes and development resources that may help them prepare for future opportunities. The event is intended to connect participants with information they can use while building or expanding their operations.
Beyond the technical details of doing business with the city, organizers are emphasizing the value of personal connections.
Small Business Day will provide space for entrepreneurs to meet other business owners, exchange ideas and establish relationships with city representatives. Those conversations could help participants identify resources or opportunities they had not previously considered.
The event will also feature several activities intended to create a welcoming atmosphere.
Attendees can enjoy complimentary coffee provided by Café Cubano while visiting participating departments and speaking with fellow entrepreneurs.
Kansas City will distribute free city-branded merchandise and additional giveaways. Visitors will also have the opportunity to enter a raffle for a City of Entrepreneurs jersey.
Although contracting and procurement information will be a major focus, the event is not limited to businesses already working with municipal government.
New entrepreneurs, experienced contractors and established business owners looking for additional opportunities are all encouraged to participate.
The four-hour gathering reflects the city’s effort to make business-related information and municipal resources more accessible through direct conversations with the people responsible for those services.
Business owners interested in attending can find additional event details through the official Small Business Day at the City registration page.
With representatives from multiple departments available in one location, the November 17 event will give Kansas City entrepreneurs a chance to ask questions, better understand city procedures and explore potential paths for growing their businesses.
