Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City’s financial future will now be guided by Brenton Siverly, who has been appointed Director of Finance by City Manager Mario Vasquez. The move places Siverly in charge of the City’s major financial operations at a time when careful planning, disciplined budgeting, and long-term stability remain central to Kansas City’s priorities.
Siverly joined Kansas City in 2025 and quickly became involved in one of the City’s most important financial tasks: shaping the Fiscal Year 2027 budget. That work helped reduce the City’s projected operating deficit through measured financial management and close attention to spending priorities.
His role in that process showed a focus on practical decision-making, responsible stewardship, and making sure public resources are used in ways that support the needs of residents.
As Director of Finance, Siverly will oversee several core areas of City government, including the budget, revenue, treasury, and broader financial management functions. His responsibilities will include helping Kansas City maintain transparency and accountability while continuing to deliver essential services effectively. The position also connects day-to-day financial operations with the larger question of how the City prepares for future needs.

City officials pointed to Siverly’s background as a major reason for confidence in his appointment. Before coming to Kansas City, he served as Director of Finance for the Schools of Nursing and Health Professions at the University of Kansas Medical Center. He also brings experience from major government roles, including serving as Assistant Budget Director for the State of Missouri, where he helped oversee a $35 billion budget, and as Deputy Budget Director for the City of Chicago.

His educational background includes both a Bachelor of Science and an MBA from Missouri State University, adding to a career built around public finance, budgeting, and institutional financial leadership.
“We’re proud to have Brenton step into this role,” said City Manager Mario Vasquez.
“He has already demonstrated the kind of thoughtful, collaborative leadership that strengthens our financial foundation and helps ensure we are delivering results for Kansas City.”
Siverly also described the appointment as a responsibility tied directly to public service and future planning.
“I am honored at the opportunity to serve Kansas City in this capacity,” said Brenton Siverly.
“This role is about making sure the City’s resources are aligned with its priorities and that we are planning responsibly for both today and the future. I look forward to continuing this work alongside a talented team dedicated to serving our community.”
