KCFD offers competitive pay and benefits as it seeks new recruits for upcoming firefighter academy, application deadline November 15

Kansas City, Missouri – The Kansas City Fire Department (KCFD) has officially opened its recruitment doors to aspiring firefighters for its upcoming academy class scheduled to start on January 27, 2025. The application deadline is November 15, 2024 and the agency is urging anyone who show interest to apply soon.

Featuring a 24-week intense program, the next session promises thorough instruction in both firefighting and emergency medical services. Those chosen for this program will not only acquire vital life-saving techniques but also benefit from a competitive pay and benefits package beginning their training.

Applicants can look forward to a starting annual salary of $51,480. The KCFD also provides a strong benefits package with several dental, medical, and vision insurance options. Additionally available to firefighters are long-term disability coverage, life insurance, and accidental and critical sickness insurance. Additional financial and wellness advantages include eleven paid holidays, Flexible Spending Account (FSA) or Health Savings Account (HSA) possibilities, and a tuition reimbursement program endorsing continuous learning.

The retirement plans of the department are equally appealing since they provide long-term financial stability for its personnel by including a strong pension plan combined with a deferred compensation plan.

To be eligible for the positions, candidates must be at least 18 years old by the application date and not older than 30 years old when applications close. Additionally needed is a high school diploma or GED/HiSET from a school accredited by the U.S. Department of Education. Moreover, applicants must move inside Kansas City bounds within nine months of their employment date, even though they need not be residents of Kansas City, Missouri at the time of their application.
