Missouri holiday gift exchange ends with a $100,000 lottery win

Missouri – A player who received a Missouri Lottery “Holiday Riches” Scratchers ticket as a gift discovered they had won a $100,000 top prize, transforming a simple swap into an unforgettable moment.

The lucky ticket was originally purchased at Autobahn, located at 7538 N.W. Prairie View Road in Platte Woods. Initially, the winner thought they had won a modest $1,000. “I scratched it off and I looked at it and thought it was a $1,000, and I was pretty happy with that,” the winner shared. However, the joy was just beginning. After further inspection by group members, it was revealed that the prize was not just $1,000 but an astounding $100,000.

The winner, still reeling from the shock, claimed the prize in late January at the Missouri Lottery’s Kansas City regional office. With the newfound fortune, plans are already in motion for home renovations, turning the prize money into a lasting improvement to the winner’s living space.

In the fiscal year 2023, Platte County players won over $15.7 million in Missouri Lottery prizes. Local retailers earned more than $1.3 million in commissions and bonuses, and education programs in the county were supported with over $1 million from lottery proceeds, showcasing the broader positive impact of the Missouri Lottery.
