Jefferson City, Missouri – A historic occasion for the Missouri National Guard occurred Friday in the Missouri State Capitol. The building’s rotunda, filled with the hum of uniformed personnel and proud families, became the setting for the promotion of Charles D. Hausman—now Major General Hausman—whose long military journey reached a new milestone.
“This promotion is a testament to Major General Hausman’s remarkable leadership, dedication, and unwavering commitment to our state and nation,” said Governor Kehoe. “In the months since General Hausman assumed command, he has led Missouri’s soldiers and airmen at home and abroad through both day-to-day trainings and missions to their vital assistance with multiple rounds of winter storms and flooding across the state. On behalf of all Missourians, congratulations to General Hausman and the Hausman family on this well-deserved promotion.”
Decades of diligent service and a consistent rise through the ranks have shaped Hausman’s journey to this point. In 1988, he first joined the Army Reserve. Within a year, he became a member of the Missouri National Guard and fast became an ambitious and competent officer. He switched to the Aviation branch in 1993, where he finally led at all levels—company, battalion, and even brigade. Essential staff duties have been part of his career, including Executive Officer of the 35th Combat Aviation Brigade and Director of Aviation and Safety for the Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters.
Hausman has built a name for operational efficiency and strategic thought over more than 36 years. He’s led troops not only in Missouri but also on Middle East missions including tours in Iraq, Kuwait, and Afghanistan. Colleagues say these events influenced his leadership style: consistent, hands-on, and deeply aware of the sacrifices military families make.

Long and including military decorations that speak of professionalism and bravery, Hausman’s accomplishments list tells a story. Among them are the Distinguished Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, and multiple oak leaf clusters on his Meritorious Service Medals. He is an instructor pilot on numerous models and his abilities as an aviator have ranged from the famed UH-1 Huey to the AH-64 Apache.
“It is an honor and privilege to be entrusted with this responsibility,” General Hausman said. “Leading the exceptional soldiers and airmen of the Missouri National Guard as we carry out our mission of serving the people of Missouri and this great nation is the honor of a lifetime.”

Beyond the uniform, Hausman’s roots remain in Missouri. Originally from Saint Joseph, he and his wife Julie currently reside in Jefferson City. From drill weekends to international deployments, their father’s profession has changed for their two kids, Alex and Libby, now to one of the top positions in the state military system.

Missouri’s National Guard looks to the future with this promotion, confident in the experience and steady hand of Major General Charles D. Hausman at the command.
