Platte County Detention Center inmate identified by authorities, preliminary findings suggest suicide

Kansas City, Missouri – The Platte County Sheriff’s Office has announced that the inmate who tragically passed away at the Platte County Detention Center on February 1 has been identified. The deceased has been identified as a 55-year-old Kansas City woman named Lisa Michelle Ellington.

On the afternoon of last Thursday, around 3:50 p.m., detention center staff found Ellington unresponsive in one of the housing units. Immediate efforts were made in an attempt to save her life, but Ellington did not respond to the treatments provided and was subsequently pronounced dead.

The Platte County Sheriff’s Office released a statement confirming the unfortunate outcome of this incident—Ellington was pronounced dead following the unsuccessful attempt to resuscitate her. Preliminary findings from detectives suggest that Ellington’s death was the result of suicide. As the investigation into the circumstances surrounding Ellington’s death continues, the Platte County Sheriff’s Office has not disclosed further details.
