Ameren will speed up outage response in Missouri and Illinois with custom Mobile Command Center trailers

Date:

Missouri – Ameren is set to significantly improve power outage response times with the introduction of two custom Mobile Command Center trailers. These trailers are designed to serve as the primary communication hubs in the aftermath of major storms, facilitating a more organized and efficient restoration process.

Enhanced Emergency Response

The introduction of these Mobile Command Centers is part of Ameren’s comprehensive approach to enhancing its emergency preparedness and response capabilities. Alongside existing resources such as storm material trailers and mobile substations, these command centers will play a crucial role in streamlining the power restoration efforts. Storm material trailers, stocked with necessary supplies, and mobile substations, capable of substituting for damaged neighborhood substations, together with the command centers, form a robust emergency response fleet.

Ryan Arnold, Vice President of Energy Delivery at Ameren Missouri, highlighted the significance of these new additions. “The Mobile Command Center trailers will centralize communication for our crews, making our work during and after storms much more efficient. They will also be invaluable during mutual assistance efforts outside our service areas,” Arnold stated. This approach not only promises quicker restoration times for Ameren customers in Missouri and Illinois but also underscores the company’s readiness to provide assistance across state lines through the Midwest Mutual Assistance Group.

Each Mobile Command Center trailer measures 24 feet by 8 feet and is equipped with modern amenities to support the crews. They offer a climate-controlled environment, high-speed internet, computer workstations, and a generator. A key feature is the technology that allows for real-time drone footage viewing of storm damage, enabling strategic and prompt decision-making. Additionally, an awning provides necessary outdoor cover, ensuring that operations can continue in various weather conditions.

These mobile units can easily be pulled by Ameren utility trucks. By bringing these Mobile Command Center trailers to areas hit by severe weather, Ameren not only enhances its ability to restore power more quickly but also strengthens its role in regional emergency response efforts.
