Kansas City travelers gain a nonstop gateway to Caribbean bliss with new Punta Cana route

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – Soon, people who want to get away to the Caribbean quickly from Kansas City will have a new, easier choice. Southwest Airlines will start operating nonstop between Kansas City International Airport (MCI) and Punta Cana International Airport (PUJ) in the Dominican Republic on March 7, 2026. There will be flights on Saturdays for the new route, which will run once a week.

This direct flight lets people skip the inconvenience of layovers and go straight to one of the Caribbean’s most popular vacation locations. Punta Cana is known for its beautiful beaches, high-end hotels, nature reserves, and active nightlife. People from all over the world come to visit all year round.

Airport officials say the route is a response to strong travel demand.

“Last near nearly 20,000 travelers flew from MCI to the Dominican Republic on connecting itineraries,” said Director of Aviation Melissa Cooper in a release. “This new flight will make access to Punta Cana easier than ever, allowing for longer time spent in the destination.”

Southwest Airlines is making it easier for people from Kansas City to enjoy their holidays by offering this nonstop option. The airline’s move also adds to MCI’s expanding list of international destinations, making the airport a more competitive hub in the Midwest.

You can find all the information you need about the new service’s fares, schedules, and booking options at Southwest.com. The Kansas City Airport System is an Enterprise Fund Department of the City of Kansas City, Missouri. This implies that it is entirely funded by airport user fees instead of local taxes.
