Kansas City International Airport achieves top ranking for passenger satisfaction

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City International Airport (MCI) has been recognized as one of the top-performing airports in North America for customer satisfaction. According to the 2025 J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study, MCI ranked number four in the Large Airport category, scoring 691 out of 1,000 points, an increase of eight points from its 2024 score. This ranking places Kansas City among the very best airports serving between 10 and 32.9 million passengers annually.

“This recognition reflects the hard work and dedication of our entire team and the strong support of our community,” said Aviation Director Melissa Cooper. “Travelers love the airport’s spacious design and modern feel. This top ranking shows Kansas City is delivering the world-class experience our community deserves.”

How the Study Works

The J.D. Power North America Airport Satisfaction Study is considered one of the most comprehensive measures of passenger satisfaction in the aviation industry. It evaluates airports by analyzing six key factors in order of importance: terminal facilities; airport arrival/departure; baggage claim; security check; check-in/baggage check; and food, beverage and retail.

Airports are categorized into three groups based on annual passenger volume:

  • Mega airports (33 million or more passengers per year)

  • Large airports (10 to 32.9 million passengers per year)

  • Medium airports (4.5 to 9.9 million passengers per year)

Kansas City International welcomed a record 12.1 million passengers in 2024, securing its position in the Large Airport category.

Surveying Thousands of Travelers

The 2025 J.D. Power study is based on 30,439 completed surveys from U.S. and Canadian residents who traveled through at least one U.S. or Canadian airport within the past 30 days. Participants rated their experiences covering both departures and arrivals, including connecting flights. The study was conducted from July 2024 through July 2025, providing a robust and current snapshot of passenger satisfaction across North America.

A Growing Hub for Travel

MCI’s top ranking underscores the success of Kansas City’s investment in its new airport terminal and customer-focused improvements. The airport’s spacious design, enhanced amenities, and streamlined security and check-in processes have drawn praise from travelers and industry observers alike.

City officials say the ranking demonstrates Kansas City’s continued growth as a hub for domestic and international travel while providing an experience that reflects the city’s values of hospitality and innovation. With a new world-class terminal and steadily rising passenger numbers, MCI is positioned to further elevate its reputation as one of the best airports in North America.
