Lucky Kansas City woman wins big in the New Year. Powerball ticket brings her $50,000 prize

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – A Kansas City woman kicked off 2024 with a $50,000 win from a Powerball ticket.

The Missouri Lottery shared that the woman had unknowingly kept the winning ticket in her purse for almost a month. She recalled purchasing it on December 4, 2023, and since then, it has been tucked away in her purse.

She recounted buying the ticket at a QuikTrip located at NW 68th Street and 169 Highway, following a breakfast outing. It wasn’t until several weeks later that she remembered to check the ticket.

She described the moment she realized she was the lucky winner to the Missouri Lottery, saying, “While chatting with my daughter, I checked the winning numbers. I realized I had matched four white-ball numbers and the Powerball. What a way to start the new year!”

The winning numbers for the December 4 draw were 18, 19, 27, 28, and 45, with a Powerball number of 9.

The lucky winner plans to spend part of her winnings on new kitchen appliances, she told the Missouri Lottery.
