MoDOT announces weeklong construction impacting Katy Trail users

Date:

Rocheport, Missouri – The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) is issuing an advisory for Katy Trail users. Construction activities on the new Lance Corporal Leon Deraps Interstate 70 Missouri River (Rocheport) Bridge will require some temporary disruptions to trail access next week.

From Monday through Friday, the construction of the new eastbound bridge will involve the installation of structural steel girders directly above the Katy Trail. This is part of a larger effort to enhance the infrastructure surrounding the Rocheport area. Due to the heavy machinery and potential safety risks associated with these operations, MoDOT has outlined specific access restrictions for the trail.

Trail Access Schedule and Safety Measures

For the safety and convenience of all trail users, MoDOT has established a schedule for when access will be limited between Rocheport and the Rocheport Bridge. Here are the details:

  • Monday to Wednesday, April 15 – 17: The trail will be completely closed to all users. This closure is necessary to ensure safety as the most significant construction activities take place.
  • Thursday to Friday, April 18 – 19: Trail access will be partially restored. Flaggers will be stationed to guide trail users safely past the construction zone, allowing continued enjoyment of the trail with minimal disruption.

To inform and guide trail users, MoDOT will post signs at Katy Trail entrances. Barricades will also be established to secure the construction zones during these times. It’s important for trail users to adhere to these guidelines to ensure their safety and the safety of the construction teams.

Additional Information and Project Completion

The Rocheport Bridge project is an ambitious undertaking with an expected completion date of December 31, 2024. The construction work is weather-dependent, and schedules may change based on conditions. MoDOT encourages all interested parties to stay informed by visiting the project’s webpage at modot.org/RocheportBridge.

For real-time traffic information or other transportation-related matters, trail users and commuters can contact MoDOT at 1-888-ASK-MoDOT (275-6636).

This construction is a significant step toward improving Missouri’s infrastructure and will ultimately benefit users of the Katy Trail and the Interstate alike, despite the temporary inconveniences.
