KCMO asks housing support groups where financing gaps still block development

Date:

Kansas City, Missouri – Kansas City is turning to the people and organizations behind housing finance as it looks for better ways to close funding gaps in future housing and community development projects.

“Housing partners, we want to hear from you!” the city said as it announced a brief survey aimed at organizations that help fund, invest in or support housing projects across the region.

The survey is not aimed at the general public. Instead, KCMO is seeking input from groups that play a role in moving housing projects from idea to reality. That includes organizations involved in financing, investment, lending, grants or other support tied to housing development.

City officials say the goal is to better understand what kinds of funding priorities, financial products and geographic focus areas already exist in the region. The city is also asking about organizations’ interest in partnering with KCMO and development partners on future housing and community development efforts.

The effort comes as many housing projects face the same basic problem: the need is clear, but the financing can be complicated. By gathering information directly from housing funders and support organizations, Kansas City hopes to identify funding opportunities that could be leveraged more effectively.

Feedback from the survey may help inform future housing strategies and point the city toward new ways to support development where financing gaps remain a barrier.

Organizations that help finance or support housing projects are encouraged to complete the survey by Saturday, August 15, 2026.
